What is Gut Health and Why Does it Matter?

Your gut microbiome, a.k.a the community of bacteria living in your gut is responsible for so much of your overall health. Hippocrates had it right when he said over 2000 years ago "all disease begins in the gut."

About 70% of our immune system is in our gut and over 30 hormone genes are expressed in the gut, making it the largest hormone-producing organ in our bodies. Our intestinal tract also acts as a defensive barrier from what we ingest, protecting harmful substances from entering our bloodstream. When this barrier breaks down, we get what is referred to as "leaky gut" which can lead to inflammation, gastrointestinal issues, skin problems, food intolerances, hormone imbalances, autoimmune conditions and issues with maintaining a healthy weight. The first step in improving your overall health always needs to begin with gut health.

As a gut and digestive health specialist accredited by the Institute of Transformational Nutrition, helping all my clients nourish the health of the gut microbiome is my priority.
