The nice weather (at least where I live) is finally here!
The arrival of summer often brings the arrival of more social events too- backyard parties, meals on a patio, camping and cottaging.
I know it can be so relaxing to sit out in the sun and enjoy a nice cocktail, but if you are serious about your nutrition and fitness goals you really need to keep things in check and practice enjoying these indulgences in moderation.
Here are some tips for sticking to a nutrition plan while navigating the summer months:
Opt for non-alcoholic drinks. It may even be helpful to pour a drink like soda water into a pretty wine glass and add in some fun fruit garnishes. This will help you feel like you are getting your regular cocktail. There are also some great non-alcoholic, low calorie drinks on the market these days too!
Get excited about summer produce. Go to farmer's markets and make fresh salads with local ingredients.
If you are invited to a backyard party, bring something healthy like a salad, cut watermelon or my fav high protein snack, a shrimp ring.
Plan activities that keep you active. Rather than just sitting around outside, go on hikes, swim, walk around your neighbourhood or ride a bike.
Don't focus on food and drinks being the highlight of an event. Focus on the people you are spending time with and the beautiful weather.
If you are serious about getting on track with your nutrition to feel, look and perform your best, you are going to reach your goals much faster if you are working with a coach to help guide you and hold you accountable. I can share all my hacks to staying on track in the summer :)
