My Hyrox Journey- How I Got Into Hyrox and How It Changed the Way I Train

When my husband first told me about Hyrox, I’ll be honest—I thought it sounded a bit… excessive. Running combined with heavy sled pushes, farmer’s carries, wall balls, and more? It seemed like something only elite athletes would sign up for.
But the more I looked into it, the more I realized the movements were actually really accessible. These were exercises I was already doing in my workouts—just pieced together in a unique, challenging way. I started to feel hopeful and inspired. I had always loved running and had been steadily working on building strength. Hyrox felt like the perfect opportunity to finally combine the two.
What made the experience even more special was that my husband and I decided to race as a doubles team. With two young kids at home, we don’t get much time alone together, and training for Hyrox became something that was just ours. It gave us a shared goal and a new way to support each other. It reminded me how important it is to nurture your relationships, not just your workout routine or your nutrition plan—your health isn’t just physical.
Of course, like most good stories, there was a twist.
During training, my husband tore his calf. Suddenly, I was faced with the reality that I might have to find a new doubles partner or switch to a solo race. Neither option felt right—I wanted to race with him—but I didn’t want to lose momentum either. Just in case, I signed up for a solo race the very next day after our scheduled doubles event.
Thankfully, he recovered in time for us to race together, but by then, I had already locked in my solo registration. So, in true YOLO fashion, I decided to go for it and do both: the doubles race and the solo pro division the next day. Honestly, this was a little bit crazy, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone—but I made it through alive.
After that whirlwind weekend my Hyrox journey continued. I was more motivated than ever to improve, especially in my solo race. I wanted to build more strength and see how much time I could shave off my performance. I ended up signing up for two more races that season: Vegas and Miami. In Vegas, I earned a one-minute PR, and in Miami, I followed it up with a seven-minute PR. The big difference? For Miami, I finally put most of my training focus on running—funny how that works, considering Hyrox is 50% running.
Throughout this whole experience, my mindset around fitness and nutrition really shifted. Around the same time, I was studying sports nutrition, and I realized there was so much more to fueling than just "eating clean" or focusing on maintaining a healthy weight. I started fueling to get stronger, to get faster, and to feel my best. That shift—from aesthetics to performance—was a game-changer for me.
Since Hyrox was still pretty new in Canada, I saw an opportunity to help others discover what I had found. That’s what led me to become a certified Hyrox coach. I wanted to help people experience the benefits of training with purpose and fueling their bodies to perform.
What started as something I thought was extreme has now become something I’m really into—and something I now get to coach and share with others.
If you’re looking for a challenge, a purpose for your training, or even a fun goal to share with your spouse, give Hyrox a try. It won’t disappoint.
